Anyone planning on attending any?
I missed out with the whole registry thing (again) so I'll not be going to Glastonbury (again). I fancy it less and less each year though if I'm honest. It's all a bit of a money machine these days isn't it? With only the young professionals and the well-healed student able to afford the price of a ticket. Meh. Whatever.
My friend Saffron and I have decided to find one to go to this year together, we last did so in 1993 (Glastonbury and Phoenix) so it'll be... 16 years... Oh Jesus... since then. So being such a decrepit pair of guffers we need something serene. Probably.
I came to within a gnat's bollock hair wisp of End of the Road last year. Still really fancy that. They have peacocks, and only a few thousand people, and real music you can sing along to and actually hear what the singer is saying. Rather than that bleepy electronic new fangled stuff. You can't dance to that. It doesn't even have a proper tune.
Anyone?

Camp Bestival looks pretty good as well. PJ Harvey headlining? Yes please. Saw her at Electric Picnic a couple of years ago but she was solo and the tent was absolutely heaving.

Must admit I've heard of hardly anyone in that line-up. Not that that's a problem. The fact it's on while I'm going to be on holiday in Cornwall is though.
Hmm. Green Man is supposed to be good too. Wilco are headlining this year.

guess the headliners aren't prime knicker-creaming names, but plenty of new impressive music with halfset, okkervil river, and villagers; dollop of nostalgia with the bunnymen and basement jaxx. there'll always a few hazardous inclusions *places skull 'n' bones next to drippy hannigan and dumbbell x 4*

Hehehe. Saw Echo & The Bunnymen a couple of years ago and they were very good live. Jape I guess I wouldn't mind seeing and MGMT but The Klaxons and Madness? erk.
Also - I think The Flaming Lips have played every Irish festival about 4 times over at this stage. I've seen them 3 times at festivals when I lived in Ireland.
No, I think me and Katy will be fighting over the two druids at Burning Man. Much more fun. Yes.
I'm starting to think Bestival looks pretty good as well.

Ah well you see I've not heart of any of the new ones you mentioned marg. And there's a load on there I know the name of but that's about it. Fleet Foxes were pretty good live, true, I can take or leave Bell X1 though these days. There's nothing on the list that'd have me tearing out my hair in envy this year though. Just felt the need to point that out to grievous. Tunng are meant to be good live as it goes, my mate saw them recently and raved a lot. They'd dragged some unsuspecting wandering musicians from the Sahara onto the stage with them, all in their desert headgear, which I thought was a bit overdressed for Leeds Irish Centre. But then, she thought Iron and Wine was the best gig she'd ever been to, and I spent half of it outside talking to security for something to do, so I'm probably recommending a band here which, in reality, I'd hate. I've found my ideal festival though. I was looking at the previous End of the Road line-ups, and have settled on 2007. You up for that kez? Next year we could do Woodstock.

Yeah man. A very old friend of mine has just set me off on a huge nostalgia trip on facebook, reminding me of the old days when festivals charged a nominal fee and gigs were a couple of quid on the door. How times have changed. It's sad, what live music has become. And recorded music too of course, but that's for a different board.

I think you can find those gigs somerwhere *sniff*. Haven't been to one in ages though.
I got into Glastonbury twice for free. Once with my friend's mum who worked on the eh...Greenpeace Stall *cough*hippy*cough* and then volunteering to collect rubbish at glastonbury the next year to get in for free.
Now you have to feckin register and pay exotortionate amounts of cash just for the privilege. Fuck em they aint getting my money!!
