Liking Bruce's new album quite a lot - seems to get better with every listen.
The band's rockin' on it and a lot of the songs are classic Springsteen. As ol' Keef is prone to say, though, the roll is just as important as the rock and there's some great melodies that immediately conjure up images of much boogying and communal arm waving at the stadium gigs in the summer.
But underneath there's some serious lyrics there. Livin' In The Future's has all the band giving it the full gun, Clarence rolling back the years, very "Glory Days" - good times. Yet the lyrics are full of "blood on your tongue", "a dirty sun", "a bloody red horizon" and "the sinkin' sound of somethin' righteous goin' under".
He's definitely got his mojo back with this one. Maybe the Seeger Sessions thing helped in that regard but I think I'll be listening to this one for a while.
Anyone else any thoughts on it?

have it ready for spinning. am a relative newcomer to bruce having unfairly dismissed him but tom dunne's recent excavation through his career was brilliantly persuasive. would love to see him live but that's hardly likely. not a ticket to be found. not even a mouse.

It's definitely his best album of original material for a while. Works very well live and stands up extremely well beside his older material.

Take it you enjoyed the Odyssey gig, GA? Was chatting to a fella who was at it and he's still in a state of quasi-religious fervour over it... Looking forward to the RDS in May. I'll keep my ear to the ground for a ticket, marg. Keep the faith...

Aaah Michael I really love Magic, it does get better with every listen. I'm ashamed to admit I only *got* Bruce recently and have been 'catching up' ever since.
I have tickets to see him in june, quite excited about that ;D

Never too late to get into Bruce, Hen. You'll have a great time when you see him.
I wouldn't be as big into him as I would some others but you gotta love him...

yeah, i like it, but then i am one of the most rabid bruce fans in the world.
you guys just got into him? please, please, get yourself darkness on the edge of town and nebraska. great stuff. also his first one (maybe second) the wild the innocent and the east street shuffle. he had this david sanchez in his band then and it has a very jazzy feel to it. love his old stuff.

Ordered Nebraska a few days ago, mkk - just waiting for the postman ;D
Question: on youtube there was a video (not there anymore, the bastards removed it), from a concert in Argentina in '88 where he did I'm On Fire (a very rawwwrrrrrrr performance, too *fans self*) - is that on dvd somewhere? Been trying to find it with no luck...

Yeah, have them both, mkk. Nebraska's brilliant. Probably my favourite.
Don't know about the video clip, Hen. I'm sure it's out there somewhere, though.

Yeah Michael. The gig in the Odyssey was excellent. Although admittedly not as good as the Seeger Sessions one. Still great though. Roll on Dublin.
