I'm flabberghasted he didn't mention 'Sweet Child of Mine'.
'Where the Streets Have No Name' is another good one.

Good call. The Unforgettable Fire is good too, also Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day for the more immediate intro.
Always thought Gimme Shelter had a cracking intro. Slide Away by Oasis is decent as well.
Losing My Religion too.

some great suggestions in the reponses...primal scream, talking heads etc. but notable absence of my all time fave.
our house 1985: electricity has recently arrived to ireland. wow, motor cars, battery powered leprechauns, and now electric carving knives men can buy as legitimate presents for their wives? *audiences roars* people are euphoric, wild with excitement. meanwhile, in my brother's bedroom i delicately place a two-pence coin on the record player needle to help its journey over that scratch in the middle of the first line after johnny marr's clinker geetar lead in. "punc...tured-punc...tured-punc...tured". rarely works. always needs a slight pressure from the index finger to get it past check-in. punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate *checks naff hairdo in mirror*

I'm sure they're mentioned somewhere in the replies to the original blog but The Who's Pinball Wizard and Baba O'Riley have to be up there....My G-g-g-g-g-generation too with Entwhistle's slightly menacing bass in yer face.
Strawberry Fields Forever....
Kudos too for the single whack of snare drum that kicks off Like A Rolling Stone.
Beach Boys' Wouldn't It Be Nice, Do It Again and California Girls.

stevie's scat chat on don't you worry..
studio tension on unfinished sympathy.
toff-voiced exclamation on kate bush's hounds of love. 'it's in the trees it's coming!'
boom shake shake the room orchestral manoeuvres on bjork's bachelorette.

stevie's scat chat on don't you worry.. Listened to that yesterday actually....while doin' the ironing, would ye believe? Neil Young for every household chore (like, obviously) but Stevie's a great man for the ironing. Make sure ye've a good long flex on your iron now....ye could find yourself boogying with your board half way across the living room very handy. Innervisions.....it's an 8 shirt album....that should be on the front cover.

that's a fucking great idea. a house work section, with sub-sections, complete with recommendation stickers. worthy of its own thread surely. and it's boogying, not boogieing. you have no idea of the relief i'm experiencing. word's been giving me jip.

Boogying it is, so. Mind yourself, though. Very easy to get caught in a my g-g-g-g-eneration style vortex giving it boogy-y-y-ing...
Never mind that, though. That's an inspired suggestion - Now That's What I Call Cillit Bang!
Do ye think we can get a grant for this...?

there's money in energy conservation. minister ryan, our lab studies, independently verified by the esteemed professor of applied music, confirms a significant reduction in the time required to carry out chores, hence reduction in electricity usage.
