Anyone seen a live show? Tempted to go to the Sheffield one, a couple of friends are driving over. But it's at the Leadmill which is shiiiiiiiiite, and I swore I'd never go there again.
Do I? Don't I?

They're meant to be ace live. I'm in the same predicament about whether to go to the Dublin gig. I'd say go.

Aye, they're extremely impressive live, Katy. Definitely give it a go. Saw them in Dublin last year and hopefully I'll see them there again in May.

Excellent night last night at Iron and Wine. Had a packed house at the Olympia *almost* completely hushed at time, which is an achievement.......
Maybe a wee bit too much of jamming but when you've a band that good, it's forgiven. Songs just sorta blended seamlessly into one another. Effortless genius.
Woulda been nice to hear a few more tunes. He left some crackers but, hey, I'm not complaining.

Excellent, Katy. Hope you enjoy it.
....and I just realised my last sentence there should've started, "He left out some crackers..."
I can confirm no Tuc, Ritz or Jacobs Creams were, in fact, left by Mr Beam. Apologies for causing you any undue excitement. You can put away your cheese board.

Have to say, hand on heart, that was one of the dullest gigs I've ever been to. Bon Iver blew Iron and Wine off the stage. Fucking amazing support, but Iron and Wine was like narcolepsy to me. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Spent the last half hour outside striking up conversation with the bouncers to try and pass the time til my friends (who loved it) were ready to drive home. It wasn't a bad gig, the music just bored me sideways. Bon Iver made the trip worthwhile though. I actually had tears in my eyes during his set. Amazing.

I know. Ah well eh.
The venue was steeped in wrongness to be fair, Michael. Proper gig dive. Now had I been sitting on the grass in the sunshine at a festival with a beer, I'm sure I'd have loved it. But stood in a packed shithole in Sheffield, knee deep in 400-year-old lager, with people rabbiting on all around me and the FUCKING fans whirring all the way through (why? why does that have to happen?), I dunno. Wrongness. Akin to watching a punk band in a seated concert hall. The Leadmill is filthy mosh city. I just wanted some electric guitars to kick in or something. What can I say, I'm a fucking heathen. I'm going to take myself off down the cellar and take 10 of my best.

Your point's well made, Katy. Aye, definitely a shitty venue and talky crowd can turn a decent gig into a shithouse, taking your mind off the music.
You should give them another go at a festival or such like. You like the album(s), though, don't you?
Fucking hate the talking thing at gigs. There were a few not far behind me the other night yabbering away. Funnily, muttering "shut the fuck up" under my breath and giving them evils didn't work on this occasion. My powers are obviously waning....

Well in all fairness although I love the stuff he did with Calexico, I have his last album and liked it well enough for the initial few plays, but went off the boil quite rapidly with it. It could have a lot to do with my current state of mind though. I'm all about noisy guitars and less about beards at the moment. I'm fickle when it comes to music. But being in noisy guitar mode and subjected to beard isn't a healthy place to find yourself at the best of the times. I'll hopefully chance upon it again in a more beard-orientated moment.

Nah, sounds reasonable. Your going through a Neil Youngesque thrashy, guitar, Crazy Horse thang and you'll be ready for the country again when that wears off and/or you get bored of it. I know how it goes.....
