Loooooooooooved this year! (especially after last year sucked with Metallica).
Cat Power - freakin amazing. Mellow and interesting and she sang 'fortunate son' with neil young. neil was back to his old 'habit' of singing duets with almost everyone who came out for the benefit.
Death Cab - Love them just as much as I used to, but nothing overly different or fantastic about their performance. Though Ben Gibbard looked ENTIRELY differently from the last time I saw them perform (skinnier, no glasses, long hair...) I find that their songs really grow on me - loved their performance of that "follow you into the dark" song (I'm horrid at learning/retaining song titles.
Smashing Pumpkins - meh. wasn't really looking forward to them. good, mellow stuff, nothing that stood out as fantastic, but enjoyable.
Josh Groban - started out with singing with SP, that "killer in me is the killer in you" song (again, not great with the titles), and did some of his groban-y stuff. the venue was totally not prepared for his vocal training and his songs were too loud. he also covered Simon and Garfunkel, which makes me swoon any time. He's also pretty easy on the eyes to watch sing since he cut his hair. He seemed to be more himself when he did covers and stuff he liked rather than just the opera-y stuff.
Norah Jones - Loved her. The end. She sang a silly halloween-ish song about elections and how the last one sucked.
Jack Johnson - finally got to see him - both other times I've had tickets I've gotten really sick. very enjoyable and upbeat. definitely know it's a mellow concert when he's the upbeat one! he's a great concert and really puts people in a good mood.
Neil Young - well, his duets and opener were great. then i got in an argument with brian because he wanted to leave early (even though the fucking concert was ending an hour earlier than last year, we left at 9:15ish) so I didn't see his closing set. But, I got to see my sentimental favorite - Harvest Moon, which he sang with Josh Groban and was pretty cool. Their voices blended quite well, actually.
Overall, LOVED IT! Very mellow and just what I needed for that day.
***eta - too tired to edit grammar and spelling. so, deal.
