A friend of mine got me a spare ticket for her gig next week. Quite curious as to what this will be like...

Was a lovely gig actually and yes alovely venue, even if it was bitterly cold.
Why do solo artists insist on their band members opening for them? Seriously. If you thought Neal Casal was shit, you haven't heard Gavin Glass who supported Lisa Hannigan last night. He made Neal Casal sound like, well, Neil Young. Straight from the Irish Schoool of Cut Price Glen Hansard. Not a Deefur the dog story but very nearly one. And an awful howling voice.
Lisa herself was quite impressive. She's obviously worked hard at her solo set - she now plays guitar and harmonioum and despite pretty crap sound in the venue it was evident that she has crafted some wonderful songs.
Highlights were a wonderful cover of Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and the closing song of the set, Lille. Also Oceean Rock was lovely.
I think she'll do well actually.

The tour with Jason Mraz has probably honed her set too. Glad it was fun. Eddie Izzard was awesome, although we were sitting next to the human equivalent of a hyena.

Oh dear a few glaring errors in that second review there (the album is out already and on sale in the venue to buy! The Dylan song is called Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues)but a nice little review all the same.
The first review was a bit more spot on and they were right about the band. God you can just picture the demon midget firing her can't you. What a stroppy little fucker.

Yes not totally convinced by her album after giving it a few listens. When you hold it up against other albums that have been released this year it doesn't really compare.
It has some lovely moments and the lyrics are actually quite well written but its a bit....flat or something.

Hmmmm....she was quite good live, nothing to write home about but the gal can sing when she gives it a bit of welly. Sound was shit though. Maybe she's better with a better sound system.

i went to her nyc gig about a week ago and really enjoyed it also! she had a decent opening act - the low anthem.
i liked all the instruments she played, she did a mary janes cover also. she rocked out more than i expected. all in all it was a fun night!
