of Love!!! If I haven't proclaimed my love enough for this album, let me do so a bit more here. The Decemberists have put together the most amazing concept piece ever, and the story is so breathtakingly heartachingly beautiful... and also a bit hard to follow what with the vocab Colin Meloy throws around. Anyway, came across this website where someone has analyzed the lyrics and I think they've done a pretty nice job. I would disagree in a few places and have my own interpretations, but this album is seriously like any complex literary piece you've ever read, and I think there will be different interpretations. I would love to hear more from Colin himself as to the meanings of some of the passages, but until he and I sit down for a pint or 12, this may have to do. Especially thinking of dearling and hen here-- enjoy firsttube.com/read/the-decemberists-the-hazards-of-love/

I'm thinking of charging this cd rent, it's inhabited my car cd system for that long now. It still makes hairs stand up on my neck listening to it.

It still makes hairs stand up on my neck listening to it. Me too *le sigh* I think it's their best one yet, I can't find one thing wrong with it. Not all reviewers are mad for it though, one described it as 'mediocre'. Mediocre!? How very dare he! I felt personally offended anyway, that was a good read, Sheila, was interesting to see his interpretations.

See them, Kez! It was one of the best shows I've seen in my life! Perfect energy, perfect amount of audience interaction and silliness, and, of course, fab music

I read the thing all the way through but have never heard the album. I'm so off the wall it's not even funny. Are they good then? Have meant to get some of their stuff for ages, and narrowly avoided going to see them a couple of years back. This album a good place to start?

This album is an amazing mix of folk, black-sabbathy metal, and sometimes country. Sounds impossible but it's brilliant.

did you get a ticket for one of the concerts Kez? Tonight and tomorrow night. They were on Later live with Jules Holland last night. It's the shortened version of the show, and they only did The Rake's Song, but the full version of the show is broadcast on Friday night so they should be doing a second track on that.
