...was the support last night, he was brilliant. I've heard the name before but can't think where for the life of me. Anyone know anything of him? Used to front a band called Verbena.
Would definitely recommend spotifying him. The title track of his most recent album 'When the devil's loose' is as good a place as any to start. Reckon a fair few of yers would appreciate it.

Definitely looking them up on Spotify alright. He looked like a young Dylan and kinda sang a bit like him too. Except better Not sure if it was his cold that gave him that lovely raspy voice but I liked it ;D

Downloaded the album last night. It's very good, but the lyrics let it down a bit.

*Holds up hands* I think I was a bit hasty. It really is excellent. The lyrics aren't the best in places, no. But what an amazing sound / atmosphere this record has. Brilliant, and some great tracks on there. When the Devil's Loose and I Can See The Pines Are Dancing are my current favourites. Love Slow Parade as well.

hehehe. I have a friend - no no wait I don't think I can call him that cos he annoys the fuck out of me too much - an acquaintance, yes that's better who doesn't believe in an album growing on you, thinks that one listen should do it or nothing.
He also likes Keane though so that explains a lot.
Still haven't bought this album proper like so will do it this week.

Oh it happens to me all the time, I don't even care about admitting it or I'd shut up until I'd listened to something at least 15 times. It's usually the ones I get excited about immediately that I end up indifferent to after a while. I like the ones that mature in the ears, like a fine wine. Although obviously not in the ears, that'd be messy. And hard to hear the music. With all that wine in your ears.

Yes what I like is that "ok not sure i get that but I want to listen to it again" feeling, that's always good because it means it's not familiar to you and it needs to earn your appreciation, or something like that.
I was like that when I heard Ready For The Floor by Hot Chip for the first time, I was like "wtf is that it's like cheesy 80s synth bollocks?! Where can I find it!"

I call it the REM Effect. I think I had that with every one of their albums: Hmm, not sure, is it as good as previous ones? Think I might be disappointed by this one... and then, I get it. They're one band I always come back to at various points in my life and fall in love with all over again. Can never get bored of them. Had the same with all 3 Micah P Hinson records as well. In fact all the albums I can think of that I never tire of were slow burners.

Sorry... more enthusing... I fucking love this album. I love the production on it. It's one of the best sounding records I've heard in years. Took a couple of listens, but it keeps getting better the more I play it. I want to know how the fuck he got the drums to sound like that. He had that same sound live, I KNEW I wasn't imagining it And he must be playing everything through vintage amps and pedals and shit to get the sound that way. It's incredible. The songs are fucking amazing as well. Have to say, Elvis Perkins, Duke and the King and The Felice Brothers were jostling for album of the year from me this year, but I reckon this could be a strong enough contender to knock the lot of them into runners up positions. Can't wait to hear his earlier stuff.

And 'I can see the pines are dancing' is the best song ever written.
No really. *waves hands in the air*
(apologies for the edits, it appears I can no longer spell)

It definitely is an album you can sit and marvel at really isn't it. I just love the way he says that line "talkin sweet to me" and his voice is just ever so slightly hoarse. Ah. ah. Yes think it is definitely up there. Prefer more to Yonder Is The Clock for definite.

I love the bit in the vampire song (forget its name right now) where he sings "Lord what I would give, for just one drop of red." It's my favourite part of the album, that one line. Edited to get the lyric right.
