That outfit looks like something the Amish might wear.

allegedly the fanny pack/belly bag is making a reappearance.
I actually love longer skirts, but the proportions can be so tricky. That first one there looks too heavy, like it'll get in the way of walking or doing anything. That Boden dress looks great, though. And I worry about bringing back anything - longer skirts, shoulder pads - that I wore as a young adult, for fear that I'll look like I haven't purged my closet in 20 years!

fanny pack *snigger* I cannot wear long skirts I look frumpy. Or should that be more frumpy I much prefer dressing for work in winter. Black opaque tights, god I love them. Covers a multidude of sins. Blouse and big long cardigan and a skirt and a big black coat wrapped around it all and bob's your uncle. Soon as the sun comes out arrrrgh short sleeves bare legs noooooo

Have to agree, Kez. At least in winter you can wear funky cardigans and knee length boots. That suits everyone. I can't wear skirts either, my legs are too short, I think.
By the way, for those who haven't met KatyR, she has GREAT legs.

I have no fashion sense whatsoever, but even I wouldn't wear that outfit.

Fake tan and almost elbow length sleeves are the only way to go in spring/summer. For me anyway. Sadly for me I carry any excess weight on my face, upper arms and tummy, i.e. all the noticeable places, but mercifully don't have chunky legs, so spring summer clothes for me will involve floaty tops with short skirts and wedge sandals. And pedicures, don't attempt anything without a pedicure. ps I know I'm 40 and I don't care!

haha, dfw you sound like me (12 years younger, of course). that's where all my trouble spots are and thats how i like to dress too. it gets so hot here tho i do wear sleeveless, but i don't care. bring on spring, love it. can't wait till it's warm enough to get a pedicure

I would love a pedicure but petrified of letting anyone near my toes. Even a manicure is pushing it and have never had either (it shows) ;D
Yay floaty is the way forward. I love floaty dresses for spring/summer.

It's lovely. I can't bear wearing clothes that I have to wear a strapless bra with, though. I don't have large breasts but I can't go braless either

I hate strapless bras too but really love the jumpsuit. Think I'll order it, see how it fits and then make a decision, can always send it back.

i love it, when you said jumpsuit i thought 'just say no to jumpsuits' and then i saw it. you really have to try something like that on to judge. it's cute and modern. ps. i was thinking about the kind of maternity jumpsuits i wore when i was pregnant with my kids, haha, i wish i could find a pic. ab-so-lute-ly horrible. i have big boobs and don't really mind wearing strapless, gotta have a good one with memory foam. and you have to self tan.

I have one almost exactly like the first one (in fact I have that exact one still in my favourites) which I bought from Asos but it will be too small for the foreseeable future! Love them both though.

all of those jumpsuits are great! The denim one does look cute but you really do need to try it on, Deb - the way they have that midsection draped could be hiding a lot of issues. Trust me, I used to work in the garment industry and there are ways of making things look much better in photos than real life...
I love the idea of fake tan, because my skin is pasty white, but have any of you found one that doesn't smell horrible? I've tried several that seem fine at first, but within a few hours the odor starts to waft up to my nose and I feel like I'm in a poisonous cloud.
In summer I'm more willing to expose my arms than legs for that very reason, even though I'm also over 50. I'm happy with the shape of my legs, but the skin is so pale and translucent that veins show through and look like marble, ugh.
Black tights with a black skirt are probably the one thing I can say I've worn consistently since at least 1990 - totally classic! Just wore them yesterday in fact - my current skirt is just above knee length, and with short booties.

I've tried with fake tan so many times , exfoliating moisturising etc, always come out looking like I've got one of those skin pigmentation diseases

Me too Lise. Although, if you're pale as a ghost like I am, that aerosol stuff is alright. The Ambre Solaire no streaks one. The face one for pale skin looks very natural. I rarely bother though to be honest.

I'm using Boots Soltan Beautiful Bronze at the moment. Nice, not too dark but a nice golden glow. Fades well too, no skanky ankles.

L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze (Fair) is GREAT. Pale enough not to look orange and smells lovely.

another strict anti-jumpsuitist here too. those are just tops and trousers sewn together. the traditional ones only seem to work on women from another, more rarefied, species, forced to keep their internal organs in their handbangs. like pj harvey, or joan as policewoman.
alas winter is nearing an end so it is with regret i gaze out the living room window knowing it will soon be time to shed at least one one, if not two, of my ten-layered homage to michelin. great for combating the perennial threat of imaginary colds.
by the way, for those of you who haven't met dusty, she has GREAT lungs.

I can't wait for spring either! I love dresses and skirts, I feel like it is so much easier to get dressed. In the winter I have trouble putting cute outfits together. I HATE the wardrobe changeover though. It takes me at least a week to get everything out, on hangers, pack up the old stuff...

I tend to freeze in Spring because I underdress, thinking summer's here already.

Courtney I'm the same. It takes ages to pull out the great mountain of scrunched up clothes that are just piled up in my wardrobe because I have nowhere else to put them, and then shove them back in again with the cable knit jumpers on the bottom and the cotton wool mix cardigans on the top.

Three years ago I made a concerted effort to pack away all my winter clothes and shoes and then do the opposite when the summer ended, but getting pregnant screwed all that up in 2009, and I haven't bothered since. I may do it this year though, it does make it so much easier to get dressed when there are much fewer clothes in the wardrobe.

Ugh that long skirt is hideous. it is as if the clothing manufactures just try to come up with something they know we don't own so we will have to spend money on the new item. it doesn't even look great on the model. I am dreading spring. I did not take many clothes down here and have no money to go shopping for new clothes.
