What about the new Ryan? I think it's good but not great. Not heard Lisa Hannigan, she and I are headlining the same venue in York next month though.

Her albums only £4.49 on iTunes. Number one in Ireland apparently. Haven't heard the new Ryan. He lost me a while back when he sobered up

haven't had a chance to get ryans, but will probably give it a chance. i think he lost me around easy tiger.
don't really care for lisa hanigan, too aerie faerie for me. i did get wilco's new one and i think it's a keeper. got joss stones new one, lucinda williams and felice bros. haven't had much time to give them a proper listen but they seem ok.
it's funny, when i'm on the elliptical at the gym, i never listen to new music, it's always tried and true. when i'm in the car or lifting weights i will listen to new music. creature of habit.

£4.99 is about £5 more than I'd pay for a Lisa Hannigan album. Ryan's new one is getting rave reviews and comparisons with Heartbreaker etc. I think it's like a better produced Easy Tiger but with slower songs. It's nice, some good tracks on there, but I dont think it's as good as it thinks it is... Anyone into The Civi Wars? Can't make my mind up about them. Listening to Josh T Pearson's one a fair bit and really like the new Fionn Regan, though it's let down bysome truly appalling lyrics here and there.

I bought the new Lisa Hannigan, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for her. I know she has that kinda whimsical, pretentious vibe going on but it's a little bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It's okaaaaay, it hasn't really blown me away but I haven't had a great chance to listen to it properly so I'm holding off judgement just yet.
Haven't bought the new Ryan, have only just managed to buy the new Gillian but will probably purchase it at some point.
Bought that Josh T Pearson EP after he got a rave review in The Guardian and they usually pan most male singer songwriters so I was quite intrigued. Also the review had a line about you could almost see the bourbon dribbling into his beard or something so that sealed the deal. Quite like it actually but I need a day of properly sitting down and listening to everything I've bought recently. I hate sort of half listening to an album.
I bought that Bon Iver album 6 months ago and didn't really get it then my sister played it over the weekend when I was horrifically hungover and I thought it sounded brilliant.
I always thought Fionn Regan was a bit of a Damien Rice tribute act and a bit twee but he always seemed to have potential though if he really gave it a go.
I really hate it when someone hypes an artist to the point where curiousity drives you to fork out the money and see if it's true. Villagers I would like my fucking £6.99 back please. Just so so so SO average. I even gave them a second chance by going to look at them live at a festival a couple of months ago in London. I was bored after about 30 seconds. I hate when that happens.
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins' album is superb, utterly superb. Low key but very beautiful. Saw them play it in it's entirety recently in London and it was just fantastic.
The Felice Brother's one took me aback a bit but in a kinda good way. The first track I thought was great but I have to admit the rest of it hasn't really grabbed me. It's a bit all over the place. I like that they've tried to do something very different but I can't quite get into it.

Quite like the new Wilco, and the Ben Folds retrospective 3-disc set brings me entirely too much joy.

I have spotify premium so listen to all the new albums for 9.99 a month ! why aren't you lot doing this , is it considered disloyal ? from what I've heard bands get about as much from spotify as most record companies ..

I'm on Spotify alright but on the free version so the ads are pretty irritating. £9.99 a month doesn't sound too bad though....

Don't know why though.

lol no missed all that. H makes me want to claw my own eyes out.
Got the new Ryan Adams yesterday. It's a bit of a relief after he started veering down the death metal path. Good to hear him go back to what he actually does best.

Anyone see that 'Songwriter's circle' on BBC4 with Ryan Adams, Neil Finn and Janice Ian? I'd heard from someone who was in the audience there was a massive bust-up between Ryan and Neil, when Ryan just point blank refused to join in with Neil's songs (all 3 are on stage together and take it in turns to play one of their 'hits' while the others accompany them). It was even funnier to watch, apparently they even re-shot 'Fall at your feet' to try and get Ryan to sing and he just sat there with his head resting on his guitar whilst Neil Finn glared at him throughout the song. You could see the tension. Ryan was really funny on it and kept improvising songs about motherships and oreos and stuff, Neil Finn came across like a boring, bitter old codger, kept making snide digs about Ryan's prolific song catalogue. And his songs are BORING, man. Crowded House did a handful of good songs ('Better be home soon', 'Fall at your feet'... ) but his solo shit would have me asleep within 5 minutes. Ryan played 'Carolina Rain', 'Come Pick Me up' and 'Sweet Carolina' and something off the new album, forget which. He came over like an egotistical child, Janice Ian blogged about him after saying what a wanker he was. Bless his wankery socks.

I love Lisa Hannigan's music. Watched an old clip on Morning Becomes Eclectic from when she released her first album - she is close to radient with good energy, it put a big smile on my face watching her perform. Needless to say I think both her albums are well worth listening to. Her voice is superb and she sure has a style of her own.
Anyone familiar with her version of 'The Times They Are A Changin' ' on Herbie Hancock's Imagine Project?
Hancock has commented on her singing by comparing her "instictive choices" with Miles Davis'.
