Just noticed they're playing Leeds on May 26th, and it's only £6. I know they've been hyped by Conor Oberst, but other than that I know nothing about them at all. Do I go?

There's a thread about them elsewhere. There was a few of the clan here raving about them. Haven't got round to checking them myself but ye couldn't go wrong for £6 surely?

"The Felice Brothers are a Folk Rock / Country Rock band from upstate New York founded in 2006. It is comprised of the five main members Ian, Simone, James Felice, and their friend Christmas, previously a traveling dice player. They have been joined by Farley, a washboard player and fiddler, and others who at times had a horn section to the band."
Who needs any more explanation? *books ticket at once*

Ah thanks for that birch, I've decided to avoid hearing anything by them til the gig, thought it'd be more fun that way. Looking forward to it.

Honestly, I can't remember ever enjoying a gig so much.
They were absolutely amazing. I now need to buy everything they ever recorded. I don't even know how to begin to describe what they were like. Completely original, the brothers are stunningly talented. All of them sing on different songs and they all have incredible voices. The drummer! My God, he was absolutely crazed but his voice was just beautiful. And they were all completely insane and drunk out of their minds. They were passing bottles of JD round the stage and into the audience, so they audience was pretty drunk too. Thus, they were kind of shambolic towards the end, but even then their energy was completely infectious. The songs were great, the lyrics are amazing. And Christmas, the washboard player, was like a redneck Bez. Leaping around the stage with his washboard and fiddle. I *cough* sort of had a bit of a kiss with Christmas afterwards. *cough* Lovely bloke. They all were really nice guys actually. I can't even come close to describing how good they were. I can see why Conor Oberst endorses them so. They did remind me of Bright Eyes in a way. But just. So, so genuine. Very unique. My new favourite band. Yay.

Katy! You naughty girl! Glad you had fun, they sound great, I am going to have to get some of their stuff. If you are a fan of the folk rock and possibly blugrass/newgrass, you may like The Hackensaw Boys. They are definitely more bluegrass than The Felice Brothers, but sort of in the same vein. They are amazing live and have a huge following where I'm from. I was in love with the banjo player for yeas. He used to play with another band called The Hogwaller Ramblers, locally infamous in Charlottesville. Our paths always crossed at the wrong time- I was single and he was dating a terrible girl I called "ice princess" then I was dating someone and he was single and he ended up hooking up with one of my friends, and on and on.... He's incredible on the banjo- his family makes Stelling Banjos which apparently are the very best banjos you can buy. Check him out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2v2pV42F_Qand the Hackensaw boys are on myspace, etc. Unless you are a huge bluegrass fan I wouldn't go out of your way to see them, but if you ever hear they are playing in your town it would be a fun show- something different.

Now, what have I been trying to tell you guys? Hubby contacted them on their gmail address (found it on their myspace site) to get hold of their old albums. They were great - sent them out right away to us. One of the older gems (Through these reins and gone) is not available on an ordinary CD anymore, but can be downloaded as an mp3 album. We (hubby&I) don't buy many albums these days but we have got our hands on all the Felice Brothers' albums. They are just amazing, as you say, Katy. Some of their live shows have been on Dimeadozen - and from the sound of those they must be marvellous live.

Oh! Oh! It wasn't Christmas I kissed at all, it was Farley the washboard player. This is Christmas on the right: But Farley is here on the left www.twangnation.com/images/felice_bros.jpg (link posted as file is massive). I'm so disappointed. I thought I'd kissed a man called Christmas. I feel cheated.

well, yeah, now that you say that my memory is serving me well, but in a bad way. And Katy, Kirsten is right, you might be even more confused than you think. How many swigs form the bottle did you take?

Quite a few. But it was before I got extremely, extremely drunk. The extremely extreme drunkenness came with several shots of brandy and several beers in a bar afterwards. I was only very drunk directly after the gig. I'm pretty sure I know who I kissed.
