Michael seems to be going to a gig about every other week, the bastard. Lucky, lucky bastard. So who all is everyone seeing in the next few months? I'm likely seeing Andrew Bird on the 22nd. And then, of course, Oasis/Ryan Adams in Seattle on August 26th. I think that's about it for me though!

We don't get much our way, but I am thrilled to be seeing Paul Simon on the 28th of July. It's not some hip new band, but he's one of my all time favorites and I've never seen him in concert so I am really excited. I am still debating about Leonard Cohen, sometime here in July. I am afraid it would just be boring and not great outdoor, summer music. I like his stuff and appreciate his talent I'm just not sure how well it would translate in this particular setting. What else, um Andrea Bocelli at a beautiful outdoor theatre- that's on the 20th I think. This weekend we are going to the Puccini Opera festival which has operas all summer long and is only about 10 minutes from us. The National symphony of St. Petersburg is performing in the orchestra pit so we want to check them out. Hmmm.... it kind of sounds like I have a frumpy summer of music planned. There just are not many options round these parts, and at least it is music, right?

some mates went to see leonard cohen here and were blown away. tipping it as the gig of their lives, and they've been to a fair few. of course i nodded but i don't really believe them. anyway, apparently he's sounding better than ever, and was pretty generous with handing over vocals to the wimmin, and his humour. he listed the various medication he's on and concluded his remarks with a headshaking.. 'but the thing is i'm kinda happy now'. ha ha. go leonardski.

Ditto. Some great bands in there dearling.
Got a couple of Calexico gigs coming up in the autumn. That aside, dunno yet. Things'll crop up. It's been an amazing year for gigs so far, one of the bestest ever.

Great gig by The National last night. Played most of the Boxer album with a few from Alligator too. Thought they could have gone a bit longer but it was all-killer-no-filler, so you can't argue with that.
Matt ended up half-way into the pit at the end during closing number Mr. November, which the crowd enjoyed. He seemed to as well. In fact they were all in good humour.
I ended up standing behind Matt during the support act's last number, which was unfortunate given his height. I was gonna say hello but he's a delicate soul and I didn't wanna cause any unnecessary mental anguish.
"Hi Matt, how's things?"
*Matt writhes in agony, adopts Scream position*
"My mind's not alright, my mind's not alright."
"Ah sure, same as the rest of us Matt. We're all struggling on. Have a good gig....and eat something for God's sake. Almost didn't see ye when ye turned sideways there..."

never heard of him.
matt berninger's delicateness would probably put me at ease. i love those folk. and he's quite the dish. although i'm not sure if that's simply down to his nervous disposition or that he's got an echo of a young gary ewing (circa knots landing) about him. a bita both. as i recall, gary ewing was also a bit nonplussed with the way his world was wired up. and probably slightly embarrassed by the size of his daughter's breasts.
and if you like your music baritoned in to you, you could do a lot worse than magnetic fields who i managed to see last night. has slipped its way in to the ranks of top gigs of the year. their style runs the gamit; the arrangements put together by folk who know what they're doing. piano was especially lovely last night. the lyrics have you smirking and sighing. banging out paeans to love filed between the sleeves of stories of necrophilia and laments for the miscellaneous including the absence of "an evil twin to run around and do everyone in". and they're very funny. '69 love songs' a good start albumwise.
hmmm. there's a baritone thread that needs doing i reckon, boys and gurls.

Have a good gig....and eat something for God's sake. Almost didn't see ye when ye turned sideways there..." Ha ha. Saw them for the first time in London last week, was very impressed. Gonna try catch them at Oxegen again. What did you think of the support band, Michael? It was The Jane Bradfords, wasn't it? Their album is fairly good, but I haven't seen them live yet.

It was indeed, neon. Yeah, I didn't know anything about them but thought they were quite good. Bit of a strange set-up in that the drummer was playing a wee electronic drum-machine sorta thing.
They're obviously keen students of Joy Division/early New Order and you could probably add the singer to marg's baritone list. The boys have got potential.
Matt dedicated a couple of songs to them, so he and the guys are obviously fans.

Sara, did you know that Josh Ritter is co-headlining the Andrew Bird gig? Should be fun. He's also supporting the Swell Season at the outdoor gig I'm seeing in August. He's like the energizer bunny, that boy.

He's like the energizer bunny, that boy. Yep, I did. Annnnndddddd guess who's going to be working Andrew Bird's merch booth? Me. And Tyson, who also gets to take photos during the gig as well. Last time Andrew came through town, he kept trying to buy Tyson jack&cokes, but there was a blizzard outside and Tyson had to drive the 30 miles home, so he kept having to turn him down. Nice guy though, so I'm exicted to be able to go this time. (well, *knock wood* still have to get the official yes from my friend who is going to watch Grace and Jack.)

what about a cover of journey's 'do stop believin'. in fact, what about 'road to damascus' as a name for a journey tribute band *wets self laughing at shite joke*
speaking of god. saw blue nile last night. paul buchanan was made from punk angels with a caffeine habit and a fondness for getting their quills out at the break of night.
