Yeah so is the London one. I have to say the last time I saw him, the Cardinals thing really worked, they really seemed like a proper band. Sort of nicely ramshackle. It seemed like he could do his thing but they could keep up with him.

I actually haven't heard the single yet. I'm scared. After Easy Tiger, I'm sort of worried. Plus, the whole poetry book thing and the weird blog online one minute, off the next, and the depressive meltdowns and, you know. I hope I'm wrong and it doesn't suck.

No wait, I have heard it. Sorry. *pushes brain back in through ear* In fact, didn't I post a link to it on the other music board?
I'm losing it.

I actually quite liked Easy Tiger. "Two," "These Girls," "Oh My God, Whatever, Etc." like em all a lot.
(As an aside... "These Girls" is about 70% the same as another old, old song I've had rolling around on mix CDs of his since 2002 called "Hey There's Mrs. Lovely" which is sort of funny)
As a band, The Cardinals really were fantastic when I saw them open for Oasis. I mean, really worked together just great, and what they did with Easy Plateau... turned it into this massive rock song with a bit that was almost like an alien abduction at the end. I wish I could make it out to see them again... they're even opening for Oasis again when they come back to the US, but I've not the funds for a second trip within one year. The closest is Denver, and that's a bit of a jaunt for me.

There are some good songs on ET, but compared to the 3 previous albums it's just not even in the same league. But I agree with those three sara, and the last song on the album is great too. I just hope the new one is a bit more Cold Roses-style dirty country rock, and not as mainstream commercial nice. It's reassuring to hear they rocked out at the gig you saw. They're brilliant when they're on form. Last time I saw them it was less of a bang and more of a whimper. Can't wait though anyway, of course. Ryan in Leeds. *faints*

I know, I'm hoping that they show up here. They played at the Festival in Sandpoint (about an hour or so from me) a couple of years ago but I didn't have the funds.
Now... well, I'd FIND the funds.
And I'd agree that I hope the new one is more like Cold Roses. You were right, it's absolutely fantastic.
Although at the moment, "The End" is what's stuck in my head. Basically, "The End," "The Hardest Part," "Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.," and "Easy Plateau" have been taking turns running through my head the past few weeks. Wake up with them in my head, it's strange.

Let it Ride, sara. Best song on cold roses, and best song he plays live, hands down. Stick it on really loud and try not to smile. Do it now.

Oh they did do that one when I saw them and it was great. I do like it a lot, but for whatever reason, the other ones keep hooking themselves in my brain lately, but a few weeks ago it was some old old Whiskeytown songs. Sort of an unconscious shuffle my brain's doing.

Ah yeah. Let it Ride's a great, great tune. He did a great acoustic version of it on a Irish telly show last year. Must see if I can find a on youtube.
I still think Easy Tiger's a cracking piece of work. Everybody Knows, Two, Halloween Head, Oh My God... Maybe a bit polished but the tunes are there.

Ah yes, Everybody Knows is great too. And Katy-- power of suggestion must be strong with me lately. As soon as you mentioned Let It Ride, guess what's been in my head since yesterday?

yeah I like Easy Tiger a lot, but would probably prefer Cold Roses if I had to choose. I love The Sun Also Sets as well.

I've been seeing the merits of Whiskeytown's Pneumonia too lately. It's like I never gave it a good enough listen when I bought it, probably aroun the time it came out.

Might've even been the best gig I've been to of his, it was great. Kicking myself for not getting tickets for a few more this tour. Blinding set list. We got Kiss Before I Go AND Let it Ride. ;D AND The End. Loads of new stuff, all of which was fucking brilliant live. Few bastardised versions of old songs - Come Pick Me Up. They did the best version of Cold Roses, the harmonies were amazing. They also did Mockingbird, which was great. Highlight for me was I Taught Myself How to Grow Old though, the live version of that was... *searches for another adjective* marvellous.
The band sound fucking amazing and the man's never been in finer voice or spirits. It's renewed my faith. Double set as well. Long, meandering, endless dirty jams at the end of every song. Tighter than a gnat's chuff. Splendid.

Nice one, Katy. Good you got A Kiss Before I Go and The End. Would have been nice to hear those.
Yeah, those harmonies on Cold Roses are excellent, aren't they?
Good stuff.

The set was great, Michael. Trying to track down the list but doesn't look like any of his regulars on his various BBs went to the gig. Maybe one will materialise later. I have to say though, he did a fair few from Cold Roses and JCN and the new stuff was up there with all that.

Brilliant. Sounds amazing. Can't wait!!!
Definitely think I'll try and get a ticket for his Southampton gig so. Brixton Academy could be a boisterous crowd and I get the impression Southampton might be a bit more chilled out.

The man has a voice like a strangulated whippet. And he needs a haircut. I don't think he'd be nearly so offensive with less lego hair.

Someone on one of RA's BBs: "I like it when Casal sings Freeway to the Canyon. It means I can have a piss and get another beer."
Fair point.

Yeah, he's never a lead singer but he can handle the guitar. I also feel folk pay to see Ryan Adams so two Neal tunes mean to less from Ryan. Which is a pity.
Good set list, though. Seems longer than Dublin maybe? Rescue Blues and How Do You Keep Love Alive would have been good. I reckon.

Check out the Edinburgh set: cave.cardinology.com/ Let it ride, magnolia mountain, meadlowlake street, cold roses... grr. Only seen Meadowlake once live and it was ace. But would that've been worth sacrificing the end and a kiss before I go? *weighs up pros and cons* Hmm. Probably actually yeah. Bloody Scots.

Well I went out today and bought a ticket for the Southampton gig. Probably the only reason I'll ever have for going to Southampton so why not.
