Australia is supposed to suck the big one, no idea about the rest of them though. Is Role Models out yet? I want to see that, but only because of my recently-cultivated crush on Paul Rudd.

Role Models only out on the 9th.
I've always love Paul Rudd, since he was in Cider House Rules...

Yeah he's great. I loved him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He was the highlight of the film for me.

Kirsten, went to see Changeling on Monday. Very very good film, with some good performances from Angelina and the two cops.

Haven't seen any of them to recommend but I have to say that we are in no rush to see Australia. I love Hugh Jackman but Nicole Kidman has always left me cold and I don't think she has any charisma or real acting ability at all.
Never really one to go see these much raved about 'epics' anyway - the hype always puts me off. I'm one of the few people I know that has never seen Titanic............

Changeling was really good.
The whole movie going experience was kind of ruined though, by the fact that we rushed into the cinema after it started to find that there were NO spare seats together, so I tiptoed to one spare right at the very front, at the very far left, and Leon sat in the seat behind me. BAD idea. Not only were we so close to the screen that Angelina's right ear always looked way bigger than her left but we were surrounded by a group of about 10 teenagers who talked, rustled and scratched their balls all the way through it. I couldn't take it after about 15 mins so moved back to a seat that I was told in hushed tones 'has something icky on it'. I sat down anyway and spent the rest of the film with one arse cheek slightly arched up. Not the most pleasant of evenings.
I do recommend the film though.

I really wanted to see Australia, but have heard nothing but bad reviews I heard changeling was excellent, but might wait for the dvd. Has anyone watched 7 pounds? It's The new Will Smith one. I'd really like to see it, but am sceptical that they might have edited the only good scenes together for the trailer. Btw I agree with Elsie, I thought Mamma Mia was a brilliant film, just for the singalong factor alone.

jb - paul rudd does that dance in the movie, too. 7 pounds was good. a bit emotionally manipulative for those with a heart (i've never cried in a movie, so i'm told I don't have one).

I want to see Changeling; watched Gone Baby Gone the other day which was quite good.
I went out for the first time in 6 months with my mum over Christmas (wooohooo) and watched Un Secret, which was very VERY good. I have no idea whether it's been released in the UK at all though.

agreed on gone baby gone. great show. in line for a gong in my end of year film honours. nearly said marg's end of year gongs but managed to stop myself just in time. phew. the third person is dangerous territory, boys and gurls. could make all the difference between making a slight eejit and a total dick of oneself among ones noble peers.
anyway, look away now if you haven't seen changling yet and don't wish to be unduly influenced by my insightfully precise opinion of it. nicely shot in fairness. lashing on the atmospheric sepia filter was always gonna get the critics creaming their knickers, and the detail and factually bizarre story undoubtedly gives it muscle. but unless they're giving out oscars this year for best lead performance by a pair of lips, i wouldn't give it owt else. jolie's lips were perfect. like the rest of her character. apparently this is what passes for an intelligent performance. call me thick, but i prefer my leading women to that bit more emotionally amoebic, a smidgen more olympic in the roller-blading department, stoic to the point where their arse can clench no further than simply holding a creme egg in, and more time-efficient when it comes to liberating a wench of bedraggled women with anti-gravity hair from the clutches of those men in white coats. all in a day's work for our ange. the best tampon ad ever made.

I know what you mean, Marg. She is actually held back by those lips as they are all you can focus on when she is onscreen, especially a massive cinema screen.
Gone Baby Gone was fantastic, I'm amazed it didn't get more critical acclaim. *pats Ben Affleck on the back heartily*

if max factor doesn't bag the costume gong, a serious miscarriage of justice will have taken place on the podium. along with jolie pocketing one for best actress. i blame eastwood. wouldn't ye expect those septuagenarians to be past all that porn at this stage. not a bit of it says old man clint knocking back his 50th viagra. that day.
kudos to ben affleck indeed, and the brother. seriously underrated actor.
another of my favourites from last year hatching to mind..
in search of a midnight kiss - LA plays chaperone to him and her during this random pairing's 24 hour jaunt on foot across the terrain of this beautiful city. he playing hapless to her haphazardness. strangers in the light, exchanging wisecracks, little did they know love was just a mutual character assassination, a bust-up with her boyfriend, a wank interrupted by his flatmate, and a series of tender self-deprecating disclosures, away.
