if you ever see the director comments on The Lives of Others, it's interesting that the actors were themselves spied on and the 'bad guy' in the film had actually spent several years in prison because he was suspected of helping someone get out of the country. And in the opening scene were the main character was training the young new group of secret police, the tape you hear is a real interrogation tape. Even the actors with the tiniest parts in the movie are actually some of the best actors from East Germany. The reason they wanted to be in the film is because they want people to know what it was like.

A few weeks ago, I rewatched The Professional. (Sometimes called "Leon") Great movie. Always liked Jean Reno for whatever reason.

I have In Bruges on my sky+ planner now. I grabbed it off pay per view on saturday night but was too tired to watch it. Might do it tonight.
Bedtime Stories is pretty good. Russell Brand plays himself (again) well, and Adam Sadler (does anyone else get him confused with Ben Stiller? I'm forever mixing them up) is good in it. I don't know what they were thinking casting Guy Pearce as a camp, arse-licking hotel manager though. He doesn't do comedy well I don't think. He should stick to the serious characters.

I hated Adam Sandler in everything I've ever seen him in apart from Punch-Drunk Love and most people who saw him in that hated the film so bit of an odd one.

I always get Bob Monkhouse and Des O'Connor mixed up as well. I literally can't tell the difference between them, never have been able to although people are always telling me they look nothing like each other. Which will mean nothing to anyone outside the UK/Ireland. Or indeed have any relevance or be of any interest to anyone anyway.

some ricky gervais quotes from the golden globes:
As he has at previous awards ceremonies, Ricky Gervais turned up to poke fun at the pretensions and conventions of the glittery event.
"Well done, [Kate] Winslet," he said. (Winslet had won a supporting actress award—her first major win after years of nominations—for her role in "The Reader.") "I told you, do a Holocaust movie, [and] the awards come, didn't I?"
The in-joke for fans of Gervais' work is that a few years ago, Winslet appeared in the writer/actor's entertainment business satire "Extras." Her story line in "Extras," in which she played a comedic version of herself, had her playing a nun in a big-budget Holocaust film in order to get an acting award.
"The trouble with Holocaust films, there's never any gag reels on the DVD," Gervais added. He then went on to complain about not getting a nomination for his film "Ghost Town," despite (and we presume this was a joke) having had intimate relations with the entire membership of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association).
"Europeans with wispy beards," he muttered. "The men were worse."

I thought Little Children was very good actually.
I caught a couple of seconds of Kate Winslet going into meltdown on the Golden Globes. She actually managed to eclipse Gwyneth's Oscar meltdown.

Not the happiest film; some big moral questions asked at the end.
Has anyone else seen No Country For Old Men?

I watched "In Bruges" over Chrtistmas,. Colin Farrel can annoy me, but I've yet to see Brendan Gleeson be anything other then superb so I watched it. The film was excellant. All the actors were superb with a great little story line.

No Country for Old Men..............harrowing but brilliant, Pam. Do it but make sure the kids aren't about to witness any of it I started watching 'Gone Baby Gone' on the inflight service to the UK last year but the sound was crap and the bastard in front of me insisted on putting his seat RIGHT back so Casey Affleck was about an inch from my face. Ok if it was in the flesh, but on a minute TV screen, it just became unwatchable.
