So from a tumbleweed in the job market to 2 interviews in 2 days.
One is my dream job - basically working for the charitable fund department of a company which has huge connections with football. Downer is that it is 4 week contract and doesn't sound like it would be much pay. I'm still going to meet with her anyway as it sounds verrrry interesting and I won't know unless I meet with her.
The other is a PA/Office Manager role for a bank. Now this one rings alarm bells because it sounds a little bit like they want to pay a PA salary for someone to do an Office Manager role. Hmmmmm....
The job where I am now is sounding more and more promising. Got feedback from a colleague who gave me a great reference and she said the woman offering the job had said she was pretty much decided she was going to offer me the role. I've emailed her today anyway, pretending I hadn't heard that previous information, in just a general chasing up "was lovely to meet you" kind of way and hoping to hear back shortly....
fingers crossed.
Hope all goes well for you Courtney! And you too hen.

Turned down the super duper football job on the basis that 4 weeks temping was too short. The woman came back and offered me another 2 weeks but I still couldn't take it. Maybe 2 years ago perhaps but I don't think I can take that sort of a risk now. She was lovely though, recommended some web sites to try if I was interested in a sports related job.
Fingers crossed on the other jobs now!

Went for the other job interview today. It was HELL. Competency based questions can just fuck off lol.
Still a bit flustered from it. I've had competency based questions before but I have managed to answer them all and give examples, etc but this woman picked apart every answer I gave so it was a bit of a battle in the end. I know it is the job of an HR person to really give you a tough interview but I thought she was a bit over the top. But I guess they will interview someone who will relish those sorts of situations and will probably match the criteria they're looking for. One thing is for certain, that person isn't me!
Being completely honest, I didn't get a very good vibe from the place. Very very quiet and not particularly friendly (as there was no logo on the outisde or inside or on the doors when I got inside I asked the receptionist to confirm was I in *insert name of the bank* I got an indignant yes and a dirty look. I then heard him loudly berating a colleague for not sending out some post correctly. Nice.) The PA I met with was lovely though but as she was leaving that wasn't much of a draw! Also the role would be for the same money I'm on now but taking on more responsibility. On paper the role had looked quite interesting, diverse and busy which is what I was looking for but the PA who was going on mat leave basically said I would be taking over her role until she came back, plus working for 2 other Directors and an MD as well as taking on Office Manager duties. Hmmmmmm.
I doubt I'll get a second interview anyway but yeah, a shame cos as I started preparing for the interview and reading over the requirements I'd built up a picture in my mind which didn't really turn out to match the impresssion I got of the place.
Am now holding out for the internal role where I am. Fingers crossed it works out or it's back to square one!

Doesnt sound as though would have been good place for you to work at Kez. Fingers x'd for the other one.
I got a follow up call yesterday about an (initial) 6 month contract at a place just outside Chester. The recruitment co sent 3 cv's in, and he is interested in all 3 so going for interview some time next week hopefully.

Got that job anyway. Initially for 2 months with the possibility of it being extended for a year. Phew. My boss sent me an email when I told him saying "yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....back of the net!!!" lmao!
Anyway...safe for now......! Am drinking a pretty dodgy pinot grigio to celebrate. Good luck everyone else

congrats Kez, and good luck Hen and Courtney and Dave!
speaking of odd interview experiences, I've posted for a new position at my current employer, and was emailed a request for a phone interview with Human Resources. Okaaay .... so the HR person called my extension at the appointed time, and asked some stock questions like 'tell me about a time you resolved a conflict'. As if it's not weird enough talking to an HR person at your own company on the phone, I could hear her typing the whole time. Writing down my responses verbatim??? seems impossible. Recording her general impressions? posting on facebook?? I don't know! very weird though.

Congrats, Kez! That's a relief isn't it, job interviews suck! It's a good way to start the new year, having a dependable paycheck! I remember back when I was temping I'd often get really long assignments but inevitably they'd end at the end of the year. It was hard to enjoy the holidays knowing that in January I'd have to be out there scrounging up another assignment.

Thanks Karen. I'm sort of used to the job hopping now at this stage. Also realised that most people, even quite senior people are contractors. Think it is the way of the world at the moment. No one is taking on long term staff but there are upsides to it as well I spose. This year will be the year of saving money though I hope!

Yes it's the way of the world but i kept getting asked why I had temped for so long? Etc. So annoying! I'd usually laugh and say something dumb like well there was this guy in England that I thought I was going to marry, and temping gave me the flexibility to visit him every couple of months.... Even though in reality I didn't go to see him every couple of months! I didn't say it's because these jobs are so boring I wanna shoot myself in a few months!

How's everyone's job search going? I've just started in my new role. Was fucking miserable last week and this week to be honest lol. I hate being the new bastard. I'm used to dealing with arses and egos but you never get used to it. Couple of rude people who are probably rude to everyone but you just feel like saying "oh stick it up your arsehole you grumpy bastard" but that probably wouldn't go down well in my first week Anyway, yesterday was far far better. I like it when I'm left alone to get on with it. Hate people standing over you picking apart what you've done but I guess that's inevitable in the first few days. I want to fast forward to the part where I know what I'm doing All in all all the other PAs are really sound though and I find that is always the most important thing!

Good on ya I had a SHITE day yesterday, was supposed to meet the head of the company my little team are interning with at 9.30 a.m. so I was up at 6 rushing the kids out the door and yelling at them to hurry up, stress central, then the fucker didn't even turn up!!! Waste of time!!! Anyway so another lady from the organisation showed up at 10.30 but I was so flustered from the morning from hell that I was not into the meeting at all, forgot loads of questions I was supposed to ask, boo hoo anyway it was all a bit shit, and then we came away no closer to pinning down the scope of our project then we were beforehand. Yuk. Hate days like that. So I'm getting my hair done today instead of working, fuck it.

Still hunting here. Get recruiters phoning up 2 or 3 times a week, but most of the time they havent got a clue. CV been sent off to Barclays in Knutsford regarding a contract. Good thing is there is an old work mate of mine already there, so seeing what I can gleam out of him about way to go with it.

Good luck with it Dave! I've been settling in here ok. Bit of ups and downs. I'm always a nervous wreck the first few weeks and to be honest I hated it last week and wanted to leave lol. Friday was awful, just on edge all day and stressed out. Then I went out with an old mate and went to see a band and had a great night out drinking tequila and talking rubbish and catching up with old mates so felt loads better (as you do!). Then Arsenal went and stuffed Spurs on Sunday so my weekend was complete Came in on Monday and actually had a pretty good day. Felt in control and capable and felt a lot less stressed. I really do stress about the stupid shit.
